Okay,so today's Spread the Smile post is going to be all about making friends! :) I want to start off by saying that I'm a pretty outgoing person, and I owe that all to my friends. Before I met the people who are now my best friends,I was just about the shyest person ever.
The easiest way to make friends is to just talk to people. But many people don't have the confidence to go up to somebody and start a conversation. Believe me,I was that way. Even though I'm outgoing now,it's really not that easy for me to go up to new people and develop a friendship. I'm not a type of person who approaches everyone and can become friends with everyone. I'm a very friendly person, but I have my own little group that's my comfort zone.
In my opinion,it's much easier in the long run if you're the person who reaches out first. Who know? Maybe the person you want to be friends with, but too scared to say hi also wants to be your friend but doesn't want to reach out either. If nobody takes the first step, you aren't going to get anywhere. It won't always work out,but most of the time they're going to be excited that you want to be their friend. There's probably going to be times when people are like "I don't really want to be friends with you...",but you never know until you try!
In school, the best way to meet new people is to get involved. When I first joined Student Council and Track,I was surprised how close I became with some of the people there. From personal experience,I honestly really didn't meet new friends, but I became so much closer to people that I already knew but weren't friends with yet. Getting involved with sports or clubs is amazing because you already have something in common with the people right off the bat.
